This mustard-based barbecue sauce is a southern classic. If you’ve never had a mustard-based sauce, this one is a must try!
Ok yall, if you’ve never had a mustard based sauce, you really have to try this one out. This is by far the best barbecue sauce I’ve ever had. I promise that you will love this sauce and it will become your new favorite. If you’re used to a red or orange-based barbecue sauce, this is a nice change! You may never go back! In my humble opinion, this sauce blows any other barbecue sauce out of the water!
I know that mustard based barbecue sauces are more primarily served in the southeastern US, particularly South Carolina. I grew up only eating mustard based sauces, but never tried to make my own though until recently. And it was definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s so easy to make and is beyond amazing. This recipe makes a good bit of sauce, which is always a good thing, because we are sauce people in my household!
This barbecue sauce is so easy to make – it will pretty much blow your mind. There is no cooking or sautéing involved. All you have to do is throw everything into a bowl and whisk them together. That’s it. Yep. Once you taste this sauce, you will not believe that a sauce that tastes this delicious only took a matter of minutes to throw together.
The Cast of Characters
Yellow Mustard. Can’t have this sauce without it.
Brown Sugar. Gives the sauce a nice sweetness, but not too sweet.
Worcestershire Sauce. Gives the sauce a nice little tang.
Vinegar. Can’t have barbecue sauce without it.
Hot Sauce. Because, why not? A little hot sauce makes everything better. I don’t use enough to make the sauce hot, just to give it a little flavor. But if you like it hot, add some more!
Ketchup. Mustard without ketchup seems a little wrong. It balances out the mustard.
A Couple of Spices. Garlic powder and black pepper.
This sauce is amazing on pulled pork, ribs, or chicken. Pretty much anything. Works just as well for a dipping sauce too. This recipe is seriously pure perfection, especially on my Pulled Pork – recipe coming soon!
