This smoothie has so many natural detoxifying ingredients – it will help your body feel good. Plus this smoothie is super delish!
Well, the holidays are officially over. I know that many of us are looking for some healthy recipes to kick off this New Year. So we are going to talk about detox today. Not detoxing in the sense that you are going on an all liquid diet or something like that, but naturally detoxing the body with amazing ingredients. This smoothie helps to usher out toxins in the body, which means it will make your body feel good!
Let’s break down the ingredients.
Banana. We all know that bananas are loaded with potassium – which helps manage heart health, and blood pressure because potassium helps sodium to leave the body when you pee. Bananas also are high in folate, niacin, vitamin C, and pectin – a soluble fiber believed to help lower cholesterol.
Strawberries. Strawberries are rich in vitamins A, C, E, and K – and also have a high concentration of iron and folic acid. Strawberries contain soluble fiber, which facilitates the absorption of carbohydrates and helps to keep blood sugar levels in balance.
Spinach. Spinach is considered a “superfood” loaded with tons of nutrients but has very little calories. Spinach contains protein, iron, vitamins A and C, and minerals. It helps to fight off osteoporosis, heart disease, and arthritis.
Pineapple. Pineapple contains vitamin C, B1, potassium and manganese. Pineapple also contains an enzyme called bromelain, which helps to improve digestion and cleanse the colon.
Blueberries. Blueberries are considered a “superfood!” They are loaded with many detoxifying antioxidants that are crucial in maintaining a healthy liver. They are also an anti-imflammatory and are believed to have an anti-aging effect of the body (win win!).
Chia seeds. Chia seeds are a super food rich in fiber, omega-3 fats, protein, vitamins (vitamins A, B, E and D) and minerals. Chia seeds are believed to facilitate the skin’s repair systems and are also believed to have anti-aging effects on the body. Chia seeds also expand which keeps you fuller longer.
I’ve really just skimmed the surface with all of these ingredients – but basically this smoothie will make your body feel good. If you don’t like banana, you can certainly leave it out – but it gives the smoothie a delicious creaminess – you could, however, use some yogurt in place of the banana. The yogurt will give the smoothie that creaminess that the banana supplies.
Throw all ingredients into a blender (I use a Ninja!) and blend. That’s it! So much (natural) detoxifying goodness. It will do the body good. Plus, it’s super delicious. I often make this for breakfast and it really just supercharges my day.
