These lemon pepper wings are exploding with flavor! The best part – they only have 3 ingredients! Did I mention they were baked? You’d never guess it by looking at them or tasting them!
These are hands down my favorite chicken wings ever.
I’m a huge fan of lemon-pepper seasoning. Especially on wings. It’s so delish. So naturally, whenever we go out to eat and order wings, I am all about the lemon pepper. I’ve tried other flavors, and like them, but I just feel like you can’t beat the lemon pepper. It’s just a classic. So of course, I had to make them at home, but wanted to bake them instead of frying them.
I like to use McCormick Lemon and Pepper Seasoning for these wings. The seasoning has lemon, pepper, garlic, onion, and a few other spices. It really is the perfect combination.
I like to buy the wings already cut up, because it’s just easier that way, but it is cheaper to buy the wings whole and then cut them yourself. It does take a little getting used to, but after you get the hang of cutting them up, you will have them cut up in no time.
Some helpful tips for making baked wings
- If you are using frozen wings (which I typically do – I pick up a couple packs up when they are on sale), make sure they are completely thawed before beginning the cooking process.
- If you do use frozen wings, after thawing, make sure that you pat the wings dry with a paper towel – same thing with fresh wings, pat them dry if there is moisture in the package. You just want to make sure that the oil is the only thing coating the chicken. This allows the seasoning to really absorb into that chicken.
- I like to use a large cookie sheet (with sides) and a rack for the wings to sit on so they don’t cook in their juices. No one likes a soggy wing on the bottom. Crispy wings are what we are going for here. I don’t use anything fancy – a cookie sheet with tin foil on the bottom (easy cleanup!) with a metal baking rack sitting on top of the cookie sheet. I spray the rack with nonstick spray so that the wings don’t stick to the rack.
Making the Chicken
So let’s talk about how easy this recipe really is. After you cut the wings up, or if you buy them pre-cut, prepping the chicken takes about 5 minutes, if that. After patting the wings dry, I put all of my wings into a large bowl and then coat them in the oil, making sure that each wing is coated in the oil. You will want to use vegetable or canola oil here. Then sprinkle the lemon pepper seasoning over the chicken. You can choose to do this in the bowl and mix it with the chicken wings, or sprinkle the seasoning over the chicken while they are on the rack on the cookie sheet. I’ve done both. I tend to like sprinkling it over the chicken while it’s on the baking sheet, I just feel like I can get them more evenly coated that way.
Bake them for about 40 – 50 minutes. And done! Devour.
Hope you enjoy!
